Norman Heaps Prize
Awarded for the best oral presentation by a young (under 35 yrs) non-established researcher.


Cath Allen Prize

To be awarded for the best poster presented at the Conference.


President's Photographic Prize

Reflecting the theme of SOLAS (Surface Ocean a Lower Atmosphere Study), the topic for the photographic competition at Bangor 2008 in September, will be: 'Sea and Sky' Photographs may be handed in at the conference registration desk up until Wednesday lunchtime *.


Challenger Medal

The medal is awarded biennially to a distinguished UK marine scientist or other person who has made a single major contribution, or a sustained contribution, to the development of marine science, or whose innovation has opened up new perspectives. The recipient need not be a member of the Challenger Society.


Challenger Fellowships

The society awards up to four Fellowships to young marine scientists for their achievements and promise in a branch of marine science: marine biology, marine chemistry, marine geology and marine physics. The recipients are members of the Challenger Society.


* Photographs for the Presidents Competition should be submitted at registration and will exhibited during the conference and judged by the President. The Norman Heaps Prize, the Cath Allen Prize will be considered by a sub-group of the Council of the Challenger Society.
