Does dentistry really offer big bucks?
To become a dentist involves years of high class education and training. Every dentist will be required to complete a standard five year degree, for which they will have needed to achieve three A-Levels with a minimum of ABB grades. Chemistry and Biology are useful subjects for students looking to enrol in a dental course. Dental courses included in the five-year degree include anatomy, pathology, biochemistry, psychology and numerous other science courses.
If successful in achieving at least an upper-second class degree (2:1) at Undergraduate level, further specific dentistry education is needed if a hopeful young dentist wants to turn professional. Postgraduate courses involve actual physical practice, a way of putting the theory aspect of your learning into use.
After your education is completed, most young students will be given dental jobs working for the NHS but some specialist areas are sometimes taken up which may require further training, such as cosmetic dentistry.
Choosing the route to become a dentist is a long and hard one, candidates need to be extremely dedicated and perhaps make personal sacrifices along the way. Individual qualities needed include being a friendly, calm and trustworthy operator for patients to feel comfortable around. Being dexterous will also obviously be an advantage when dealing with certain operations. Despite the complex training and intricate education needed, dentistry is a lucrative profession and Palm Beach dentists earn in excess £80,000 a year.
